UNBOXED: Reviewing the Bullfrog Speaker from Kicker
There are rugged Bluetooth speakers, and then there’s the Bullfrog Bluetooth speaker from Kicker. Whereas some speakers in this category focus on being small, compact products that can take a beating but sacrifice some of the sound quality, Kicker, in typical Kicker fashion, decided to go all in with their Bullfrog speaker.
They make no apologies for the size of the thing—it clocks in at around eight pounds, which is massive for a Bluetooth speaker of any kind—and I fully appreciate that. And even though it is a tall and heavy speaker, they did make it easy to carry by including a handle in the design.
The IP66 rating means the Bullfrog can take a pretty decent beating, get wet, survive a little mud or dirt, and still maintain its high quality level of performance. Kicker used a very rugged housing that’s a combination of rubber (along the sides and top where buttons are located) and a strong metal for the speaker grills. Inside those grills is where they packed in the performance features. Kicker went big with two 4-inch drives and two 3-inch-by-4-inch passive radiator subs, which work together to produce a bold sound capable of rattling any campsite. And with the speakers and radiators pointed out both sides of the Bullfrog, users get a “360-degree” listening experience.
