UNBOXED: Reviewing the Altec Lansing True EVO Wireless Earbuds
The top of the box of Altec Lansing’s True EVO wireless earbuds says it all: Just listen.
Altec has made a name for itself as a manufacturer of affordable but quality audio products, and the True EVO earbuds are no different. In a market that is dominated by gimmicky products that put more emphasis on silly features and anything other than sound quality, Altec’s earbuds are a sort of breath of fresh air. The True EVO wireless earbuds are a no-frills product that places greater priority on producing a solid sound profile than it does anything else—which contributes to both the successes and drawbacks of the product. But they manage to do that while maintaining a $99 price tag, which is far below any other notable true wireless earbud that consumers will be able to find.
Right off the bat, it’s clear that the sound engineers at Altec love bass. It’s rather impressive the amount of bass the company was able to squeeze out of these tiny little wireless earbuds. The amount of bass and emphasis on the lows was right in my wheelhouse for a personal audio experience, but it might not be for every listener. Otherwise, everything about the True EVO listening experience was crisp, the kids and highs could easily get drowned out by the bass response at lower volumes, but it’s overall a rather solid sound profile.
