I’m a sucker for high-quality tech accessories, and especially those that help keep a space neat and organized. You might not know that about me just by taking a quick glance at all of the clutter that’s piled up around my desk, but that’s besides the point.
One of the more common accessories that’s cropped up in the three-plus years since the launch of the Apple Watch—and that isn’t a band for the watch itself—is a stand for the charger to attach itself to. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, from simple hanging stands to full-blown desk stands with drawers and everything. But I’m more a fan of the low-profile, simpler styled stands like the one we recently got our hands on from Proper.
Standing just under three inches tall, the Proper Apple Watch Dock is nothing more than a hunk of aluminum with a hole cut out of it, but it’s that simplicity that really speaks volumes here. It’s a premium-built product that can add a heck of a lot of class to any side table or nightstand. The stand comes in two different color combinations: Navy/Gold, and Black Silver.
The Apple Watch charger itself is mounted to the rest of the stand with a silicone attachment that holds it firmly in place on the stand. The very snug fit of the silicone attachment into the stand itself made it a little difficult to get it all set up perfectly, but once you’re there, it’s a very sleek looking setup. The slight angle of the Watch Stand allows the magnetic end to hold the watch in place while mounted to the charger. The cord itself spits out the back of the stand and can easily run off of a nightstand or desk and out of sight.
It’s very much a first-world type of problem, but one of the more frustrating aspects of the Apple Watch charger is that, typically when attaching it to the Watch itself at night, you’re left fumbling over the edge of the bed, searching for the cable. And with it being so long, when you eventually get a hold of it you’re still left searching for the charging end. Bedside mounts like Proper’s Watch Stand simplify the process by keeping the Apple Watch charger on the nightstand and in an easy to attach position. It also keeps the watch in that Nightstand mode that turns it into a mini alarm clock.
Something that has bothered me about other Apple Watch stands is that, as someone who travels frequently, they aren’t very travel friendly. That’s not the case with the Proper Watch Dock. It’s compact design makes it perfect for travel as it won’t take up much room in the luggage.
The only thing holding the Proper Watch Dock for the Apple Watch back is its hefty price. At just shy of $70, it feels like a lot for something that holds a cable upright. For some (like me) that might be worth the cost of keeping an area free of cluttered cables and simplifying the Apple Watch charging process.
