Accessorize: Green Accessories Drive More Profits
Accessories are a retailer's margin maker and, as the economy gets tighter, there's no reason to watch those margins dwindle. Instead, it's time to fuel marketing and sales strategies that keep the accessories' engine pumping. One big opportunity lies in eco-friendly products. Whether your company is a manufacturer or retailer, you can capitalize on the green trend, which looks like it's here for the long term.
As more consumers demand eco-friendly products, the green discussion has intensified across the CE universe. CEA's study, "Going Green - An Examination of the Trend and What it Means to Consumers and the CE Industry," examines the future of the green trend within the CE industry. It looks at consumers' awareness of green products and terminology, their current green behaviors and if this awareness can turn into action.
Familiarity with green terminology in general is high for established terms such as recyclable (86 percent) and energy efficiency (76 percent), but lower for newer terms such as carbon footprint (33 percent). Consumers have a greater awareness of green household products (72 percent) and food (61 percent), compared to computers (17 percent) and televisions (15 percent). A positive correlation exists between awareness of green products and the quantity, length of time and popularity of the products on the market.
