VANA Ltd. to Debut Marten Loudspeakers in North America
VANA, Ltd. (www.vanaltd.com) has been appointed exclusive Importer of Sweden’s Marten brand of speakers and audiophile recordings to North America. Known for their emphasis on high-technology components that banish unwanted vibration from drivers, crossovers and cabinets, Marten’s core philosophy is to utilize the best possible material for every application. The resulting speakers have earned Marten their reputation for sonic transparency and fatigue-free listenability. With a product range spanning all prices from its new, accessible Oscar series (starting under $7,000 MSRP) to the state-of-the-art Coltrane Series (top models over $500,000 MSRP), there’s a Marten for every music lover.
Innovative Application of the Finest Materials
Marten’s choice materials include ceramic and diamond drivers, copper foil inductors and extremely expensive, critically damped capacitors used in their crossovers. Marten’s cabinets are computer-optimized to minimize excess resonance and feature exotic dampening materials including honeycombed Kevlar and carbon fiber. Virtually all models feature down-firing ports that make Marten speakers uniquely room-friendly and compatible with a range of listening environments and, thanks to “stiff” impedances, many different amplifier designs as well. The company’s ultra-rigid, lightweight ceramic and diamond drivers offer near-perfect piston-like motion, eliminating audible distortion and delivering blindingly fast and dynamic sound reproduction. Marten’s lead engineer and designer, Leif Mårten Olofsson, has long felt that these drivers offer the best of both worlds: the micro dynamics and resolution of electrostatic drivers in concert with the macro dynamics and frequency extension of dynamic drivers.
All in the Family
A family business with a love of music in its genes, Marten is run by the three Olofsson brothers, who respectively perform the company’s executive, graphic design and engineering roles. The Olofssons’ maternal grandfather was a designer and manufacturer of fine musical instruments, and that heritage is reflected in the brothers’ obsessive pursuit of no-compromise audio reproduction.
"Marten's philosophy of uncompromising realism in audio reproduction makes them a great fit for us and for the North American audiophile community,” said Roy Feldstein, CTO at VANA. “Marten doesn't shy away from using the best materials to serve this goal, whatever they may be — hence their reputation for utilizing diamond tweeters and ceramic drive units, as well as elaborately constructed high-damped cabinets. They obsess over their choice of materials; firstly, to eliminate unwanted vibration, and secondly, to avoid introducing any element of harmonic distortion. These components perform their tasks exquisitely and then disappear without influencing the sound.”
Marten are best known around the world for their celebrated Coltrane flagship series, which includes both two- and three-way designs. Now in its 3rd generation, the state-of-the-art Coltrane line is lauded for its premium driver complement and bespoke low-loss, first-order crossover technology that delivers perfect phase coherence, a claim which has been confirmed in numerous independent analyses. Consisting of just a few extremely high quality components and Jorma wiring, Marten’s unique crossovers have earned a reputation for both performance and design elegance. All Marten speakers exclusively feature internal wiring by Jorma Design, with the Coltrane 3 featuring high-purity copper wiring.
In 2019, Marten entered a new era with its introduction of the Oscar series. The Oscar lineup includes the Duo Monitors ($6,995/pr MSRP, plus stands) and Trio Towers ($10,995/pr MSRP), both featuring bespoke ceramic drivers engineered to deliver true Marten sound at popular prices. Oscar replaces the company’s two previous entry-level lines, Form and Django, delivering improved performance at an even lower price point. These new offerings are the result of a ground-up build that utilizes all-new technology to deliver Marten's hallmark crisp, detailed, and musical sound while maintaining competitive manufacturing costs.
