Industry Heavyweights Oppose California Law
A proposed regulation in California to virtually ban the sale of non-energy-efficient televisions starting in 2011 has been opened to public comment- and various sectors of the CE industry are coming out strongly against it.
In comments to the proposal by the California Energy Commission, the Consumer Electronics Association calls the proposal "an unnecessary and harmful approach" that would hurt both customers and businesses in the state. CEDIA says the proposal "threatens both California consumers and California-based CEDIA members by limiting their choice of large-screen televisions."
Best Buy calls it "a punitive and unnecessary regulatory approach" and suggests that the state abandon it in favor of "market-based and consumer-oriented" policy.
