The data storage brand Verbatim Corp. announced Thursday that they have purchased “substantially all” of the extreranl hard drive and digital imaging assets of the SmartDisk Corp. The sum of the transaction was not disclosed.
The deal covers all physical assets, technology, patents, trademarks and engineering and marketing expertise, and personnel will move to Verbatim as well. The new assets will be combined with Verbatim’s current holdings to expand present lines.
“Plans are already underway to leverage these assets and Verbatim’s heritage to extend quickly our global leadership in the removable storage and related accessories markets,” said Shigenori Otsuka, president of Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), Verbatim’s parent company.
