Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg to Keynote CES 2019
At many a CES past, the concept of 5G has been loftily floated around as a technology of the future that was right around the corner and carries this promise of completely revolutionizing the way we use our devices. But this year, 2019, feels like it's primed to be the real coming out party for the future of connectivity.
Retailers are already preparing for the impact of 5G. A number of 5G-ready smartphones were announced earlier this year at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. 5G was tested during the Super Bowl in Minneapolis earlier this year. And a number of cities have served as testing grounds for early in-home 5G deployment.
So, it only makes sense, then, that CES 2019 would be the show where wireless companies would want to make their big 5G statement to the world—and that's exactly what Verizon appears ready to do. In a statement released Thursday, the Consumer Technology Association announced that Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg would deliver a keynote at the show in early January. Vestberg's address, which will take place on Tuesday, January 8 at 4 p.m. in the Venetian Palazzo Ballroom, will explore the future of connectivity through 5G. He will "take a deep dive" into the impact that 5G will have on consumers lives, especially through the technology that they use everyday. Beyond that, he plans to explore the impact that 5G will have on crucial infrastructure, like education, aiding first responders, and more.
