Verizon Reports FiOS Box Shortage; Bay Debuts as Spokesman
Fresh off celebrating its one-millionth customer, Verizon’s FiOS television service has hit an unexpected roadblock: a shortage of both set-top boxes and HD DVRs, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
Verizon told the Journal that the problem is due to trouble with its supply chain from supplier Motorola, a situation both companies attributed to higher-than-expected demand. Also affected is Cox Communications, whose boxes are also supplied by Motorola.
FiOS this week also unveiled a new television ad campaign, featuring none other than filmmaker Michael Bay. Bay, best known for directing last year’s Transformers film, parodies himself in the ad by walking around his house, demanding that everything be “awesome,” and making things around him explode at the touch of a button. The ad, which debuts the service’s new slogan “This is FiOS, This is Big,” can be viewed on YouTube here.
