Verizon, in connection with St. Patrick’s Day, is asking customers to get green- by recycling their cell phones and accessories.
The project, called HopeLine, is built around collecting cellphones, chargers, and other accessories, and either reusing the parts to make new phones, or recycling them in other ways. Some of the extra phones are also donated to domestic violence shelters.
Numerous companies have come up with varying scenarios about what to do with the nation’s millions of excess cell phones, with many of the ideas relating to charity. One tax service in Missouri has even begun collecting old phones to be donated to soldiers serving in Iraq.
