The Southern California-based experiential CE retailer Video and Audio Center drew an overflow crowd of 400 of its Bel Air/Beverly Hills-area football-fan clients to an invitation-only “Big Game” watching event Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Bel Air Crest Community Center to view the proceedings between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Attendees were treated to the view of the game on eight of Samsung’s 8K QLED TVs and could hear the crowds roar on Bowers + Wilkins 800 and 700 Series loudspeakers, and enjoy their music reproduction capabilities during the halftime show.
“This was not a selling event,” said Tom Campbell, corporate director and chief technologist, “but people were blown away. We had a regular cable feed, but the Samsung TVs upscaled the signal for 8K display, and everyone remarked about how crystal clear the images were.” Campbell also noted that event-goers were remarking about how well the Samsung 8K sets also performed, despite bright sunshine conditions, for those seated outdoors.
“The event was successful beyond our expectations,” said Joseph Akhtarzad, co-owner of Video and Audio Center, “as evidenced by the fact that every Samsung 8K set there was purchased on site. Once consumers see and experience the picture quality of 8K upconversion, and they understand the improvements the technology makes in viewing currently available broadcasts, it becomes a ‘must’ buy.”
