Southern California-based experiential technology retailer Video & Audio Center (VAC) made use for the first time of the external kiosk that complements its newest store in Los Angeles’ Westfield Century City open mall last week for an exclusive Dyson Showcase event highlighting the company’s Supersonic hair dryer, its Cyclone V10 vacuum cleaner and its Pure Cool Link Wi-Fi-enabled air purifier. The kiosk featured three celebrity hairdressers who provided blowouts and styling using the Dyson hair dryer for customers who pre-registered via Video & Audio Center’s website for appointments over the course of two days.
The Dyson dryer is designed to style hair without damaging it and is engineered to be lightweight and to produce minimal noise, according to Dyson. It is equipped with a glass-bead thermometer that measure the airstream temperature 20 times a second and transmits the data to a microprocessor, which then adjusts the heating element accordingly.
The demos at the store proved that seeing is believing, according to company corporate director and chief technologist Tom Campbell, who reported that the dryer sold briskly during the two-day event even at a lofty price tag of $399.99.
