Vizio Blazes to #1 in LCD Survey
Vizio, a brand barely known to consumers as recently as two years ago, has risen to the #1 spot in a survey of LCD market share, conducted by iSuppli in the second quarter of this year.
According to the survey, 606,402 Vizio units were shipped in North America in the second quarter, for 14.5 percent of the overall LCD market. Samsung came in second, with 476,210 units (11.4 percent), and Sharp was third, with 431,171 (10.3 percent). They were followed by Philips, LG, Sony, Syntax-Brillian, Westinghouse, and Panasonic. Vizio surged to first from fifth place in the first quarter of the year, when Samsung ranked first and Philips was second.
An iSuppli analyst said the surge by Vizio was mostly due to an expanded presence at discount retailers, including Wal*Mart and Sears.
