Vizio announced Thursday that it experienced the best quarter in its young history, as its shipments of HDTVs increased 52 percent during the holiday season. Citing preliminary reports from research firm iSuppli Group, Vizio said it sold 1,238,840 units in the fourth quarter, despite the difficult retail environment.
“The demand for VIZIO products has never been stronger,” Vizio co-founder Laynie Newsome said as part of the announcement. “Even during times when tier one competitors drop their prices (and lose millions of dollars in the process) the American Consumer clearly recognizes VIZIO as a preferred consumer electronics brand.”
According to the iSuppli data, Vizio is now the #2 company in the U.S. in terms of flat-panel shipments, behind Samsung.
