VIZIO Unveils Five New TV Lines, and a Major SmartCast OS Update
Usually getting hit with five separate emails from the same company is a bit obnoxious. But in the case of VIZIO this morning, each new email that came into our inbox raised our eyebrows a little further and brought another level of excitement.
Eventually, by the fifth email… Well…
So let’s quickly recap what’s new from VIZIO.
First, the company announced their brand new 2018 D- and E-Series 4K HDR Smart TV collections. Essentially their entry-level TVs, the D- and E-Series TVs have price ranges of $349.99-$999.99 and $349.99-$1,549.99 respectively. The D-Series sets feature 4K Utra HD pictures with High Dynamic Range support and come in various size options between 24-inch and 70-inch models. The E-Series limits the size range to the higher end with models between 43 and 75 inches. They also add Active Full Array support, which further enhances the HDR effect by integrating up to 16 zones of local dimming for “deeper blacks.”
The next step up in the VIZIO portfolio would be the newly announced 2018 M-Series TVs. This line ranges in price from $699.99-$1,499.99 and comes in sizes between 55 and 70 inches. The upgrade here is Active Full Array Plus support, which multiplies the number of local dimming zones to up to 48, for a more an even further enhanced picture.
Next up was the 2018 P-Series TV announcement. This updated line features the same basic features of the previous lines but reaches for the top-shelf. Users will find Dolby Vision HDR support, Active Full Array Pro with up to 120 local dimming zones, and Ultra Color Spectrum that expands the range of colors to more than a billion. And the bezel-less design allows the picture to flow from edge to edge. This series will range in price from $899.99-$2,499.99 and come in sizes between 55 and 75 inches.
Finally, from a hardware standpoint, there’s the brand new flagship VIZIO P-Series Quantum TV, which will launch this summer in one 65-inch model. It'll retail for $2,199.99 and will be sold through the VIZIO website and other retail channels including Amazon, Costco, and Sam’s Club. This new display will integrate 4K UHD, Dolby Vision HDR, Active Full Array Max (192 dimming zones), Quantum Dot Technology, Quantum Color Spectrum, and more. VIZIO said it will be the company’s brightest TV ever with up to 2000 nits. Additionally, the set will include support for both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice services and will have Google’s Chromecast built right into the TV. Bottom line, the TV looks impressive and like a real winner for VIZIO.
One additional announcement from VIZIO revolved around their SmartCast OS, which will be updated for the new sets launching and is available now via cloud-based update for existing 2016 and 2017 set owners. The updated OS will bring with it a whole host of smart home features, including voice control support for both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. VIZIO also added a built-in TV tuner to the OS update, giving users a much-requested feature to live TV without the need for a cable subscription. Coming soon, VIZIO will also add support for YouTube TV and a new streaming services geared to cord-cutters.
All-in-all, it was an incredibly news-filled morning for VIZIO.
