VOXX Electronics Announces Iris-Based Security System
You’ve seen it in the movies, and, if you’re in a highly-classified government agency, you might’ve even used one of these, but VOXX Electronics is working to make the iris-based security system—where a person’s eye is scanned to authenticate their identity and grant access to a secret room, for example—attainable for any business.
VOXX and EyeLock LLC, a developer of iris-based security solutions that VOXX recently acquired a controlling stake in, teamed up to develop Enterprise myris, a USB-enabled iris identity authenticator that will give companies a secure and convenient way to manage employees’ digital identities. The Enterprise myris system uses EyeLock’s video-based iris authentication technology, which looks at more than 240 unique points of an iris to generate an encrypted code for each individual. The system then matches the code to the individual’s eye to grant access.
“Weak or stolen user names and passwords are cited as the primary cause in 76% of data breaches. Companies both large and small, struggle daily to provide a level of security that protects them and their employees against data and other security breaches,” Tom Malone, President of VOXX Electronics Corporation, said in a statement. “With the integration of Enterprise myris, any business regardless of size will have the opportunity to protect itself and its employees from these threats.”
