Wal*Mart Gives up on Linux PC
Wal*Mart this week pulled the plug on its experiment in selling an inexpensive Linux-based PC in 600 of its stores, with lack of consumer interest the main reason, the AP reported.
“This really wasn’t what our customers were looking for,” a Wal*Mart spokeswoman said of the Green gPC, made in Taiwan, which the company began selling last fall for $199. The computer sold out of its in-store inventory, and the chain will not re-stock.
The gPC will continue to be sold on Wal*Mart’s Web site, as it was prior to the store trial.
