Wal*Mart To Phase Out Phone Customer Service For Web Users
Wal*Mart is seeking to no longer phone customer service to its online customers, choosing instead to assign problem-solving tasks to its Web site, the New York times’ “BITS” blog reported last week. As a first step, the retail giant will stop publicizing its customer service phone number on its Web site.
Called the “Customer Contact Reduction” program, the initiative is a response to what Wal*Mart considers “overuse” of the phone line for the purposes of tracking orders. The number, 1-800-WalMart, will remain in effect for in-store customers, however.
