Walmart Settles Class Action Suits
Walmart has announced its intention to settle dozens of class action suits filed by workers over the last several years, the New York Times reported. The retail giant will pay out at least $350 million and perhaps as much as $640 million, to settle the 63 cases, which were filed in 42 different states.
Most of the suits involved employees accusing the company of forcing them to work through breaks, while off the clock, or other accused violations of company policy or state or local labor law.
The settlement comes as Michael Duke prepares to replace Lee Scott as CEO, and as Barack Obama prepares to assume the presidency.
