Walmart Eyes Chicago
Walmart is planning to take another run at bringing multiple stores to Chicago, after the City Council in the Windy City had opposed earlier attempts, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The chain, under new CEO Mike Duke, has only one store in the city, but hopes to add as many as five more as the economic crisis drives more and more consumers into discount retail chains. But labor unions, which are strong in Chicago, are expected to resist, as they have in the past.
A company spokesman told the Tribune that the company is assessing the viability of further expansion in Chicago.
