Walmart Looks to Chicago
Walmart is making a renewed push at opening a new store on the South Side of Chicago- and is even offering space in the store to local businesses. According to the New York Times, the retail giant is seeking approval for the store, which would be its second in the Windy City.
Walmart has even asked public officials to recommend specific businesses who may like to rent space inside the proposed store. The company is also planning to carry locally-produced products. Mayor Richard Daley supports the new store, and is seeking a compromise in which the company would agree to pay the city-mandated minimum wage.
The chain already operates a store on the city's west side, as well as more stores in the Chicago suburbs.
