Walmart Likely Alone in Retail Gains
Of all of the major retailers in the U.S., Walmart will likely be the only one to post positive retail gains in December over the same month last year. That's according to projections released by Thomson Reuters, as cited by Dow Jones Newswires.
Official same-store sales numbers by most retailers will be released next week.
The data also found that the retail industry as a whole will post a 6.7 percent drop in comparable-store sales for the month, while Wal-mart is projected to post a 2.8 percent gain. Even Walmart's rival discount retailers- Target, BJ's and Costco- posted projected losses.
