Walmart to Shutter 154 U.S. Stores
Walmart, the country's largest brick-and-mortar retailer, is moving to close down dozens of stores in the U.S. Or as Walmart puts it, it's "continu[ing] a sharpened focus on portfolio management."
Worldwide, the company plans to shut down 269 stores, with 154 of those in the U.S. But 102 of those will be the entire fleet of Walmart Express small-format stores that have piloted since 2011. Overall, about 10,000 U.S. employees will be affected.
The closings are the result of a review of the chain's portfolio that began in October.
