Warner Accepting HD DVD Trade-Ins
Warner Bros., the Hollywood studio that effectively ended the Blu-ray/HD DVD format war when it went from dual-format to Blu-ray-exclusive in early 2008, has launched a new program to help make it up to frustrated adopters of the losing format.
Under the offer, known as Red2Blu, owners of HD DVD discs can send the cover art of their movie to Warners, and in return receive a new Blu-ray edition of the same title, for the low price of $4.95 per disc, plus shipping and handling. The new discs arrive within 4 to 5 weeks.
The program applies only to Warner Bros. titles, and only on titles in which a Blu-ray version is available. Last February, a company called HDScape offered a similar deal, for $11.95 per movie.
