Warner To Delay Total HD
Warner Brothers is delaying plans to develop a high-definition DVD that will hold both Blu-ray and HD DVD versions of the same movie, the AP reported. The technology, called Total HD, was to place the Blu-ray version on one side of the disc, and the HD DVD version on other.
According to VideoBusiness.com, a Warner executive had mentioned the move while speaking last week at the Entertainment Supply Chain Academy conference in Los Angeles, but the official announcement came Thursday that the launch has been pushed from the second half of 2007 until 2008.
Total HD was announced earlier this year as a compromise in the Blu-ray/HD DVD hi-def format war. But currently, only Paramount, in addition to Warners, releases its movies in both formats. The success of Total HD would require the cooperation of more studios, which shows no signs of currently happening.
