Westinghouse Introduces LCDs at Open House
At a trendy loft location in Manhattan Tuesday, Westinghouse Digital was set up to show that it had LCDs for every room in the house. The fourth largest LCD TV brand in the US, according to research firm NPD, Westinghouse is a large player in Best Buy and Sam’s Club, plus retailers within the NATM and Pro groups, said Rey Roque, vice president of marketing. Roque also noted that Target will also be deploying two models (26- and 32-inches) any day now.
The new flagship products are three 1080p LCD TVs in sizes 42 ($1,499), 47 ($1,799), and 52-inches ($2,499). All three products employ Trident video processor chip sets for scaling and de-interlacing. The two smaller models will be available next month, while the 52-inch will ship in August. All models feature four HDMI inputs. The 42- and 47-inch model claim 8ms response time while the 52-inches claim 5-6ms.
In addition to the large HDTVs and various bedroom-size TVs and PC monitors, there were several LCD digital photo frames scattered around the loft. The photo frame business “is doing well,” said Roque. Westinghouse offers four sizes in LCD photo frame (7-, 8, 10 and 14-inch). “The 7- and 8-inch are almost neck and neck,” noted Rogue about the sales of the frames. He added that the upcoming mother’s day will probably create a sales spike in photo frames.
