It was hard. However, here we are 30 some years later, and [I still live by] the lessons I learned on how to do things—how to do them right, how to do them passionately, and to finish things. You do the job right, and the dollars take care of themselves. You do it with passion, and you do it with a stick-to-itiveness to get things done. You live by what you say you're going to do, and you always, always, always pay your bills.
My mom is straight from heaven. She has always been the voice of reason in the family. I think she is the one that has kept not only the family together, but she’s also instrumental in getting this business to where it’s been.
The father of a very good friend of mine owns one of the nation’s largest, privately owned, travel corporations. I’ve learned an unbelievable amount from him. Humility would be number one. I’m not naturally the most humble guy in the world. I’m pretty fond of myself. But in business, you have to try to accentuate humility, and try to see how other people look at circumstances.
