Wi-Fi Alliance Debuts New Standard, New Logo
The Wi-Fi Alliance announced Wednesday that it will soon introduce its next generation of products, complete with a brand new logo. The Wi-Fi Certified 802.11n draft 2.0 products will begin being certified in late June, the alliance said.
The new products will offer speeds up to five times faster than traditional W-Fi. They have also been tested for interoperability, security protection, and backward capability. Products with the new technology will carry the new logo.
The Web site Wi-Fi Networking News, meanwhile, argued against purchasing products with the new standard, because “it makes no sense for consumers because the actual standard is close enough at hand that buying pre-standard equipment has little benefit and a possibility for disruption given manufacturers’ current guarantees and claims.”
