Windows Use to Top Billion Mark, Microsoft’s Balmer Says
The number of computers worldwide running Windows will top 1 billion by the end of 2008, Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer told analysts and media at a conference.
“The install base of Windows computers this coming 12 months will reach 1 billion,” Balmer said at the Microsoft Financial Analyst Meeting late last week. “If you stop and just think about that, parse that for a second, by the end of our fiscal year ‘08, there will be more PCs running Windows in the world than there are automobiles.”
Also Monday, the New York Times reported that founder Bill Gates has remained fully engaged with Microsoft, a year before he is scheduled to leave the company.
