Amazon will soon begin charging a sign-up fee for its Installer Referral Program for 12 volt brick-and-mortar installing specialty retailers, Ray Windsor, the industry veteran who has been working with Amazon on the program, said in a letter to thousands of installers Monday.
According to Windsor's letter, which he said went to 2,800 retailers as well as media outlets, participation in the program, which was previously free, will now have a charge "in the $100 range."
"It seems that Amazon’s attractiveness to installers, so far, has been strong enough such that Amazon feels they can pass along some of the initial administrative costs," Windsor wrote. "I anticipate that cost to be in the $100 range for the sign up. There is no set date for when these fees will begin, but the program is growing in popularity after the national launch last week and Amazon has made it clear that registration fees will be charged in the future."
