Wireless Formation Suite Bows from Bowers & Wilkins
Premium audio brand Bowers & Wilkins has introduced the Formation Suite of whole-home wireless streaming audio – a product portfolio consisting of products it says combines both convenience and high-performance characteristics associated with the legacy brand that is the series’ parent. The products offer 96/24-bit audio resolution and are based on a patented mesh network that is said to produce sound throughout a home without compromising the quality or performance of the installed network.
The approach the company is using to mesh network creation, it says, is such that each product in the network dynamically chooses the best path for routing audio data between products for an optimal streaming experience.
Bowers & Wilkins says this method of sound distribution assures speaker synchronization with an imperceptible in-room latency of just one microsecond.
“We are setting a new bar in the world of wireless sound, proving that wired fidelity can be achieved wirelessly,” said Greg Lee, CEO of Bowers & Wilkins.
The launch includes five products:
Formation Bar, featuring nine optimized drive units including a dedicated center channel, for a wide soundstage ($1,199);
The Formation Duo, with Bowers & Wilkins' iconic tweeter-on-top design
Formation Duo, which uses a carbon-domed, tweeter-on-top design that evokes legendary Bowers & Wilkins cabinet designs along with the same Continuum cone driver technology found on the company’s 800 series ($3,999);
Formation Wedge, a 120-degree elliptical speaker shape, with dedicated full-range stereo sound components ($899);
Formation Bass, designed to pair with other Formation components and made with opposed drivers, power amplifiers and Dynamic EQ for distortion-free performance ($999); and
Formation Audio, a wireless audio hub that enables high-quality wireless streaming to an existing passive system via patented Formation Wireless Technology, or from existing passive components such as CD players, turntables or other components to wireless Formation speakers ($699).

Each of the Formation Suite products includes a streamlined user interface said by the company to be easy to set up. The products also boast a unique, waffle-evocative cosmetic that the company says was purposely designed for superior acoustics.
