The Wireless Speaker and Audio Association (WiSA) announced the introduction of its brand new designation, the “WiSA Endorsed” stamp for audio amplifiers, which coincides with the launch of the first WiSA Endorsed amp from Infineon Technologies. In a statement, WiSA said that amps with the new designation will be designed into a complete powered speaker solution that has passed WiSA Certification, and these endorsed amps can then be designed into products by audio brands and manufacturers seeking their own WiSA certification.
Infineon Technologies, already a member of WiSA, introduced their MERUS MA12070 4-26V ultra-efficient audio amplifier this week, making it the first amp to receive the WiSA Endorsed designation. The amp is powered by Infineon’s switching amp multi-level technology. WiSA explained that the amp operates from a fixed power supply voltage, which helps the amp drastically reduce power losses at normal audio listening levels.
“We are proud to announce the MERUS amplifier solution from WiSA member, Infineon Technologies, as the first WiSA Endorsed amplifier,” Tony Ostrom, president of WiSA, said in the statement. “This program will be instrumental in driving our mission forward by helping simplify the process of developing WiSA Certified products with an array of readily available WiSA Endorsed components.”
Infineon Head of Marketing and Application Engineering for Class D Audio Jens Tybo Jensen added that the company was beyond pleased to assist in the launch of the designation. “It is a great honor to be the first company to receive the WiSA Endorsed designation, and we are proud of this recognition by WiSA as we are aware that this is an important quality stamp for an increasing range of audio manufactures around the world,” he said.
WiSA will be on hand at CES 2019 in Las Vegas in January, where they will have their members’ products and more on display.
