With Formats to Please, Matsushita Embraces Digital Networks
By next year, Panasonic plans to have a 256MB SD card. One gigabyte is planned by 2003.
Matsushita is the supplier of disc drives and key parts for Nintendo's forthcoming Game Cube. Nagasaki said that Matsushita has no intention of developing a game system of its own ("We have 3DO," he joked), but he admitted that Nintendo is considering a Game Cube application for SD media.
On recordable DVD, Nagasaki admitted that a market with a single format would be better for the consumer, rather than the several competing formats we have now.
