With Formats to Please, Matsushita Embraces Digital Networks
OSAKA, JAPAN—Matsushita executives discussed the company's position on the latest issues in the consumer electronics industry in a series of briefings held in conjunction with a Panasonic-sponsored press tour of CEATEC in Japan.
Subjects covered in the discussions included recordable DVD, hard drive recorders and the future of digital networking.
Kunio Nakamura, president of Matsushita Electric Industrial Company, took the company reins about a year ago. One of his early priorities was to restructure the company's business processes from a pyramid structure to a more web-like structure, which would make for a more customer-focused business. He also wants to incorporate his Five S philosophy (speed, simplicity, strategy, sincerity and smile) into the corporate management. He acknowledged that "In my nature, I have not been very good at smiling."
