With Paramount Flip, Blu-ray Has Hollywood Monopoly
Paramount Pictures completed the inevitable this week, announcing its move into the Blu-ray Disc camp, and with it bringing every major Hollywood studio under the Blu-ray banner, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer,” the studio said in a statement. “As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly.”
Paramount and DreamWorks both abandoned their neutral stance last fall and switched exclusively to HD DVD, in a move that turned out to be the last big victory for Toshiba’s format.
