With War Over, Universal to Release Blu-ray Discs
The day after Toshiba pulled the plug on HD DVD, the company’s original exclusive content provider, Universal Studios, announced that it will now release movies on Blu-ray Disc, the Associated Press reported.
The move, which was not unexpected, will affect both movies put out by Universal’s movie division and TV series released by NBC. NBC’s parent company, General Electric, bought Universal in 2006.
Paramount/DreamWorks, which went from format-neutral to HD DVD-exclusive last fall, has not yet made a similar announcement but likely will soon.
