With Wii in Mind, Panasonic Prepping “Unbreakable” TV
Who hasn’t heard the stories? Your brother or cousin or uncle or even you yourself were playing the Nintendo Wii, got a little too enthusiastic with the hand motions, and let the controller fly- straight into your new, huge, flat-panel TV, rendering the expensive new screen damaged or destroyed.
One major television manufacturer is now designing with the above scenario very much in mind. Panasonic is working on a new, “super-tough” plasma screen meant to withstand flying controllers attached to the Wii, or perhaps to other, future systems with similar setups. Wired magazine’s Gadget Lab blog reported that the idea was talked about at the GSMA Mobile World Congress conference last week in Spain.
And speaking of the Wii, Nintendo will be rolling out the “Wii Fit” game this spring, Reuters said. The release of the fitness-intensive title, which has been a runaway success in Europe, had been expected this year.
