World's First LTE Call Successfully Placed, Says Nokia Siemens
Nokia Siemens claimed Thursday to have made the world's first LTE phone call, according to Reuters. LTE (Long Term Evolution) is a mobile technology centered on approaching 4G capability and is expected to deliver up to 100 Mbps download to mobile devices, although it is unclear if the Nokia Siemens call achieved that benchmark. Nokia Siemens plans on rolling out mass deployment of LTE in 2010. Of the call, Marc Rouanne, Nokia Siemens' head of radio networks, told Reuters, "It's a proofpoint of the direction we are going to. Our strategy is focused on deployments and being first to the mass market."
