GDC: Good News for Xbox, Bad News for PS3
The news coming out of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week has been all roses for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and, well, not as positive for Sony’s PlayStation 3.
First, the good news: Microsoft has reported that its Xbox Live service has topped 6 million members worldwide, growing even faster than the company predicted. According to gamesindustry.biz, the software giant didn’t expect to have that many users until June.
The caveat, of course, is that Microsoft doesn’t break down the number of subscribers who hold “Gold,” i.e., paid accounts, and how many are “Silver,” or free accounts which allow users to download patches, content updates, chat and access the marketplace to purchase and download television shows and movies. Silver members can’t play multiplayer online games.
