The Yamaha YSP-5600 was introduced to the world on Tuesday, and the company said it is the first soundbar to feature Dolby Atmos technology. Dolby Atmos is described as being an audio tech that delivers “captivating, moving audio that places sound anywhere in the room, even overhead, to bring entertainment alive all around the audience.” The YSP-5600 will be the world’s first soundbar to support the tech without the need of an additional AV receiver, Yamaha said.
The soundbar will also get DTS:X support through an upcoming firmware update, meaning it will be able to expand its support for multidimensional listening experiences, Yamaha explained.
It’s Yamaha’s Digital Sound Projector technology that the company said allows it to deliver the product with support for these advanced audio technologies. The YSP-5600 employs Yamaha DSP together with the use of 44 small speaker drivers that include 12 for the height channels, which create “sound beams” that achieve the equivalent of a 7.1.2-channel speaker system.
