Quick-Review: High-Def Audio To Go With Your Video
While many consumers and companies are focusing their high-definition TV's with upwards of 1080p resolution and HD disc formats to match (Blu-ray and HD-DVD), there lies another front: HD audio. Both DTS and Dolby Laboratories, Inc. showcased high definition lossless, bit-for-bit audio at this year's CES, a format now possible because of the added storage space on next generation optical discs.
DTS-HD was presented in 7.1 surround sound and sounded extremely detailed, especially when viewing 20th Century Fox's "The Transporter", where I could here every single bullet shoot from the rear channel to the front. Additionally, Omar Hakim's "Listen Up!" was a great jazz selection that isolated the different instruments on individual channels, making me feel like it was sitting on stage with the band.
