Awards Season: HP, YouTube To Recognize Online Videos
There aren’t quite as many annual contests as there are for movies each year, at least not yet. But the burgeoning online video sector is about to become the latest platform for awards, with Hewlett Packard has launched a viral video contest, called “I Want an HP TV.” The contest is aimed at getting consumers to create “quirky videos” about why they deserve a new 50-inch plasma HD television, with the winner receiving one. The contest begins Wednesday, at this site.
Meanwhile, YouTube announced this week that they are accepting nominations for the first-ever YouTube Awards.
The Google-owned video-sharing site will hand out awards in seven categories, including “most creative,” “most inspirational,” “best comedy” and “most adorable.” Voting began on Monday and will continue through Friday, with winners announced March 25.
