YouTube Eyeing Movie Rentals
YouTube is negotiating with several Hollywood studios over selling or renting movies through its site, according to multiple media reports this week.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the studios the Google-owned Web video giant are speaking with include Sony, Lion's Gate, MGM and Warner Bros.
It is uncertain how exactly the business model would work, but the movies could be available for paid streaming at the same time it is released on DVD. Others could be available free, with advertisements. The move would put YouTube into competition with Apple's iTunes store, as well as Amazon On Demand and Netflix.
