Zebra Technologies Rolls Out Smart Refrigeration IoT Reference Design for Retailers
At the National Retail Federation’s BIG Show held this week, Zebra Technologies Corp. demonstrated a smart refrigeration Internet of Things reference design. Zebra Technologies said that, in addition to the latest in low-power silicon and cloud services, the new product—powered by Zatar and Atmel low-power wireless mesh technologies—will demonstrate how products built on the ARM mbed IoT Device Platform bring “improved security and energy efficiency” to consumers’ homes.
"Managing and recording the temperature of fast-moving, perishable goods is increasingly necessary for a superior, safer customer experience,” Thomas Kurian, senior director of new growth platforms at Zebra Technologies, said in a statement. “Bringing together Atmel's low-power, mesh technologies with Zatar, our IoT Cloud Service, helps retailers eliminate the cost and inaccuracy of manual recordings and meet compliance requirements."
Zebra Technologies said that its Zatar ARM mbed enabled IoT Cloud Service offers “seamless, out-of-the-box connectivity with any device for both reference designs and commercial-scale solutions.” And Zebra explained that it is working together with silicon partners like Atmel to bring IoT reference designed to Fortune 1000 companies that can pilot immediately and deploy “in-scale to address specific industry pain points” including temperature monitoring of perishable goods.
