Zinc Matrix Power to Show Off Non-Explosive Battery Alternative at IDF

Seizing the opportunity presented by the recent bad press surrounding Sony’s power cells for lithium-ion batteries, Zinc Matrix Power plans to demonstrate an alternative power source for laptops and other portable devices at the Intel Developer Forum this September in San Francisco. The new batteries use silver-zinc technology, which Zinc Matrix Power claims is safer than lithium-ion technology since it involves water-based chemistry and no lithium or flammable liquids, eliminating the risk of thermal runaway, fire or explosion. Other touted benefits include improved energy density and recyclable contents. Says Zinc Matrix Power CEO Ross Dueber, “Electronic manufacturers should consider silver-zinc battery technology as a much safer, lower risk solution for portable power.”
