Zune 80 a Holiday Sensation
In the opening days of the holiday shopping season, one of the biggest surprises has been the huge success of Microsoft’s Zune music player. After failing to make a significant dent in the marketplace when released in its original version, the updated Zune 80 has been flying off both in-store and virtual shelves, even competing with the more established iPod.
USA Today reported Monday that the Zune 80 is either nearly or entirely sold out at Amazon, Target, Wal*Mart and several other retailers- and a secondary market has emerged for it on eBay. Its popularity is mostly attributed to its 80GB storage, wireless networking capabilities and music subscription service.
According to Wired, the Zune was the second most-sought-after Black Friday item among online retailers, behind only the Nintendo Wii.
