TiVo Inc. announced Wednesday that it has teamed up with Entertainment Weekly to reinvent how TV fans, in print and online, can connect with their favorite shows. The TiVo service will now automatically record Entertainment Weekly’s “what to watch” TV recommendations. Details Emerge About New Kindle

Amazon is currently developing a new version of the Kindle book-reading device, and sees this as an opportunity to gear the e-book reader towards college students, McAdams Wright Ragen analyst Tim Bueneman told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for an online story published late last week. “There are already several new, improved versions of the Kindle in the works,” Bueneman told the paper. “But Amazon has no plans, however, for an MP3 music audio version. Verizon Wireless announced Monday that the release of a new smart phone, the Verizon Wireless Blitz. The phone is available online at www.verizonwireless.com, in addition to Verizon Wireless Communications stores. The phone, which is being launched at back-to-school time, is targeted towards younger users, who tend to be the heaviest of texters. Yamaha on Monday introduced a Blu-ray Disc player called the BD-S2900. The product features performance enhancements such as 12-bit Deep Color, HD Audio Bitstream output and BonusView Functions. The BD-S2900 has the highest picture quality at 1080p via HDMI. In addition, the player can transmit 4,096 shades of each of the three primary colors for a total of 68.7 billion possible colors which gives viewers rich and deep color experiences. Nintendo Sued Over Wii Patent

Nintendo Co. has been sued by Maryland-based Hillcrest Laboratories Inc., which filed a complaint Wednesday with the U.S. International Trade Commission, and also filed a federal lawsuit in Maryland making the same allegation. The complaint and suit allege that the Nintendo Wii’s motion-sensing controller and software infringes on Hillcrest’s patents related to the technologies, according to the Wall Street Journal’s account. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced Monday that they will be accepting entries for the 2009 International CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards starting Monday, and continuing through Sept 24. The annual competition, which honors outstanding design and engineering in 34 consumer electronics categories, will announce the 2009 Best of Innovations honorees at the New York press preview on Nov. 11 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Sales of EA Sports’ recently released Madden NFL 09 are on pace with last year’s installment of the popular gaming franchise. Panasonic announced Tuesday that its searching for new families to take part in the Living in HD program. This program, which is a study of American families experiencing living in high definition,” plans on increasing the number of participating families to 60 by next year and eventually to 100. The Consumer Electronics Association has pushed back the deadline on their i-stage contest to Aug. 15. This free contest, which invites gadget creators and promoters to introduce their newest products, offers the winner a major exhibit at the 2009 International CES as well as a $50,000 grand prize to develop a product line. The deadline was originally Aug. 1. Rules indicate that the product must be presentable and new. Newegg Inc., the parent company of Newegg.com, has promoted President Tally Liu to Chairman and CEO, replacing cofounder Fred Chang.
