DEI Holdings announced Friday that it has named Kevin Duffy the new president of its Polk Audio and Definitive Technology units. Jim Minarik will remain CEO of both, with Duffy remaining president of DEI Holdings.
As I said in my wrap-up of this year’s CES, the only thing that outnumbered earbuds at the show were soundbars. I didn’t say much about Definitive Technology’s offering in that category, because it was literally in a back room and I wasn’t sure how official it was. But now it’s officially official: the Definitive Technology SoloCinema XTR sound bar.
DEI Holdings, parent company of the Polk Audio, Definitive Technology and Viper brands, has created a Global Design Center that will support development of products in those and other of the company’s labels. It is to be based at DEI’s Vista, Calif., headquarters and led by Michael DiTullo, who has been hired as chief design officer. DiTullo was most recently creative director at frog design, where he orchestrated projects for Google, P&G and Motorola.

Definitive Technology said this week that it has named Joe Finn to the position of marketing and international sales manager. An industry veteran who formerly worked at Velodyne Acoustics, Sonace and Polk Audio, Finn will report to senior vice president for marketing and product development Paul DiComo.
DEI Holdings, Inc. announced Thursday that it has been acquired by Charlesbank Capital Partners. The deal is for $285 million, including assumption of debt, and has been approved by both boards.
