Lidar technology is similar to radar or sonar, but instead of using radio or sound waves, it measures the time of flight (ToF) of laser points to build three-dimensional, real-time information about the physical world.
Through the collaboration, the companies will combine technological strengths to deliver real-time updates on the location of road hazards, detected by Hitachi Automotive Systems’ vehicle sensors, to navigation and ADAS applications running TomTom’s connected services.

Hitachi Ltd forecast an 18.5 percent jump in operating profit for this fiscal year, in line with expectations, as the electronics conglomerate reaps the benefits of a weaker yen while projecting a pickup in economic recovery both at home and abroad.
