Linear Brands Unveil CAT-5 Audio Distribution Platform

The Linear Home Technology Group, which includes SpeakerCraft, Niles Audio, ELAN, ATON and Xantech, unveiled DIGI-5, a low-cost audio distribution technology that will serve as a common platform for easier integration of products released by Linear’s brands. The company also plans to make the platform available to other companies that meet certain licensing requirements. Announced Wednesday at Fall CEDIA Expo 2007 in Denver, the protocol is designed to transmit digital music over CAT-5 wiring. Even with a name like “StageFront Home Theater,” Niles Audio’s new speaker line is still all about what the customer hears not sees. 2,200 Mile Bike Ride to CEDIA Earns $40,000 for Cancer Research

The CE Express, a group of CE industry cyclists raising money for cancer research, successfully completed their planned ride from Maine to Colorado, arriving at CEDIA Expo 2006 as scheduled. On Monday, the group announced that the ride raised more than twice last year’s expedition, topping $40,000 in proceeds. The money will be contributed to the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Maine in equal portions. In preparation for what is bound to be a competitive holiday season for consumer electronics dollars, iBiquity, the company behind HD Radio, announced a rebate program for purchases of HD Radios—around 20—from multiple vendors. This is in addition to a number of radios the company announced it would be giving away for free in a special holiday promotion. The program started yesterday and runs through January 14, 2007, with rebates in either $25 or $50 amounts. The goal is to bring prices for consumers below around or below $200.
